Gloppen — the heart of Nordfjord

Gloppen municipality is centrally located in Nordfjord in Vestland county, and is one of the best-placed starting points for exploring the region. With Sandane as the capital and good road connections in all directions, Gloppen is the natural hub for anyone who wants to experience Nordfjord at its best.

From Gloppen you can take day trips to some of Norway's most spectacular natural attractions. Briksdalsbreen in Stryn is one of the most visited glaciers in the country and is only 1 hour and 20 minutes from Sandane. Loen Skylift and Loen Via Ferrata are two other iconic experiences in the region that can easily be combined in one day.

For those interested in culture, the Astruptunet by Jølstravatnet is a highlight — the artist Nikolai Astrup's studio and home is today one of Norway's most distinctive art museums. The Glacier Museum in Fjærland is located by the Sognefjord and provides a unique introduction to the role of glaciers in the Norwegian landscape.

Surfing enthusiasts should not miss Hoddevik — one of the very best surfing waves in Western Norway, surrounded by dramatic mountains and one of Norway's most beautiful beach landscapes. Hoddevik is located about 1 hour and 45 minutes from Gloppen, and is a perfect destination for a full day out in nature.

What makes Gloppen unique as a base is the combination of central location, affordable accommodation and an authentic local community. Here you can experience the real West Norway — and yet have world-class attractions within reach on day trips.
